How to Wax Correctly

Five steps to a faster ski. No pro equipment, no secret knowledge — just the right thing in the right order.

How to Wax — quick

The 5 steps in 60 seconds. The complete pro guide is free in the Wax Academy.

The Five Steps

01 · Clean the base

Remove dirt and old wax, and work the base dry and clean. New wax holds much better on a clean base.

02 · Apply the wax

Drip the wax that matches the temperature onto the base with the iron at exactly 126 °C — evenly along the full length.

03 · Iron it in

Iron the wax in with steady, even strokes — never let the iron sit still. Don't overheat it — the right temperature protects the base.

04 · Let it cool

Let the ski cool down completely to room temperature — ideally 15–20 minutes. That's how the wax really soaks in.

05 · Scrape & brush

Scrape off the excess with the blade, then brush it out — until the structure lies free. Ready for the piste.

Essential for waxing

Stay clean while waxing

Hot waxing can get messy. The Chef's Special Apron keeps wax residue and stains off your clothes — durable, wipeable, in the WhiteRoot look.

Pro Tips & Common Mistakes

Iron not too hot

Most common mistake: iron too hot. Better a bit cooler with more strokes.

Scrape off enough

Don't scrape off too little — leftover wax slows you down instead of helping you glide.

Go by snow temperature

Always choose your wax by snow temperature, not by habit.

Pro Tip from Hans

“The most common mistake is an iron that's too hot. Better a bit cooler with two or three extra strokes — that protects the base and lets the wax soak in more evenly. And always brush in the direction of travel, never across.”
